Who operates Flight Slate

Flight Slate is operated by Nick Howard in Christchurch, New Zealand. For privacy questions or requests, email nhoward0510@gmail.com with “Flight Slate privacy” in the subject line.

This policy covers the Flight Slate iPad app and this policy page. Flight Slate is a separate product from the Aviate learning app, although this page is hosted on the Aviate website.

Your instructor notebook

Student names, lesson plans, flight records, handwritten notes, summaries and notebook settings are stored locally on your iPad. Flight Slate does not upload this notebook content to Firebase or RevenueCat.

Signing in does not create a cloud backup or synchronise your notebook between devices.

You can export lesson PDFs and editable notebook backups. These may contain student information. Flight Slate does not encrypt exported backup files itself. Choose carefully where you save them and whom you share them with. If you choose a cloud storage service, its own privacy terms apply. Apple device backups may also include app data, depending on your device settings.

Instructors are responsible for recording, retaining and sharing student information appropriately and following their organisation’s requirements. Students seeking access to or correction of lesson notes should contact the instructor or school holding those notes. We cannot retrieve notebook content directly from your iPad.

Account information

We use Google Firebase Authentication for email/password, Google and Apple sign-in. Depending on your sign-in method, this processes your email address, account name where supplied, unique account identifier, sign-in-provider information and authentication credentials.

Authentication services also process technical information such as IP addresses and device or user-agent information for security and abuse prevention. Sign in with Apple may provide a private relay email address if you choose Hide My Email.

We use this information to provide and secure your account, send verification and password-reset emails, associate subscription access with your account and respond to support requests.

An account is required to use Flight Slate. Optional notebook profile fields, such as school or organisation, can be left blank.

Subscriptions and payments

Apple processes subscription payments. RevenueCat helps us verify purchases, restore access and manage subscription or complimentary access.

We provide your Firebase account identifier to RevenueCat so your subscription access can be associated with your Flight Slate account. RevenueCat processes purchase and subscription records, access status and technical information about the app and device.

We do not send your student records or handwriting to RevenueCat. We do not receive your full payment-card details.

Support

If you email us, we receive your contact details, message and any attachments you choose to send. We use these to respond and resolve your request. Please avoid sending student information unless it is needed to investigate the issue.

Analytics and advertising

The Flight Slate app does not include advertising, app analytics or cloud AI processing of your notes. We do not sell personal information.

This privacy page does not load Google Analytics. Other pages on the Aviate website may use analytics as described in the Aviate privacy policy.

Website hosting services may process technical request information, including IP addresses, to deliver and secure this page.

Storage and service providers

We use Google Firebase, Apple and RevenueCat for the functions described above. These providers may process account, technical and purchase information outside New Zealand, including in the United States, under their applicable privacy and data-processing terms.

Retention and deletion

Your local notebook remains on your iPad until you remove it through the app or remove the app’s data. Signing out does not delete your notebook.

Deleting your account in Flight Slate requests deletion of your Firebase sign-in account and removes that account’s notebook from the current iPad. Provider backups and security records may remain for their retention periods. Firebase states that authentication information is removed from its live and backup systems within 180 days after deletion is initiated.

Account deletion does not automatically delete RevenueCat purchase records or Apple transaction records. Contact us to request deletion of remaining account-related information. We will assess your request, arrange deletion where applicable, and explain any information that needs to be retained for billing, security or legal reasons.

Account deletion does not cancel an Apple subscription. Manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple subscription settings.

Deleting an account also does not remove exported PDFs, backup files, copies on other devices, or information you have shared with others. Manage those copies separately.

Your rights and choices

You can edit notebook information, export records, update your account name and delete your account using the app.

Contact nhoward0510@gmail.com to request access to or correction of personal information we hold about you, ask about deletion, or raise a privacy concern. We may need to verify your identity before acting.

You can also raise a concern with the New Zealand Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

Policy updates

We may update this policy when our services or information-handling practices change. We will update the date on this page and provide additional notice where appropriate.
