About Aviate

Learning that fits the gaps between flying lessons.

Aviate is a practical learning app for New Zealand student pilots: short, structured lessons and active practice designed to sit alongside real-world flying and formal training.

Why Aviate exists

Built by a pilot. Inspired by teaching.

My background before aviation was in teaching. Going through flight training made me think a lot about how aviation knowledge is learned: there’s a huge amount to remember, flying lessons can be days apart, and it’s easy for knowledge to fade between sessions.

Aviate grew from the idea that a little active practice, done regularly, can make those gaps much more productive.

Teaching meets aviation

Built from a recent learner's perspective.

Nick has recently completed NZ PPL and CPL training and is currently undertaking an instructor rating. That experience informed a simple focus: give students an approachable way to keep knowledge moving between the practical parts of their training.

What it is for

Support the learning around your flying.

Aviate is intended to complement your instructor, formal training and current official publications. It is a place to learn, retrieve, revise and practise regularly—not a replacement for the people and resources that guide your flying.

The Aviate approach

A little active practice can go a long way.

Learn regularlyUse short lessons to make a useful habit around an ordinary day.
Bring knowledge back to mindUse questions and practice to strengthen what you have learned.
